Adding Up With Axiom

When one thinks of math, one tends to think of numbers, symbols, signs... and headaches. Memories of sitting in geometry class doodling on graph paper flitter through your mind. Then, it all comes back to you, the painful reminder of those agonizing hours of memorizing those tongue-twisting Latin terms for this angle and that.For one San Antonio band, Axiom, those Latin terms aren't so bad; Axiom meaning perfect standard.Roland Gloria, the band's lead vocalist, explains, "God is Axiom. God is the perfect standard in which we measure everything against."Axiom is comprised of Roland Gloria, a singles pastor at My Friend's House Church, the band's lead vocalist, lead guitarist, and songwriter who describes himself as a person who is "always moving, always doing"; Carla, the Axiom Diva, who has been with the band for two years and is lead female vocalist as well plays acoustics and tambourine; Isaac Segovia, background vocalist, songwriter, and is a "monster" on the keyboard; Jeff Villarreal, a young, single bass guitarist and background vocalist; and Gabriel Silva also young and single, plays drums.For a band that's been around since the early 90's, their music and style has changed so much it's hard to pinpoint a genre they haven't played.Beginning as a heavy metal band they moved to more of a coffee house, praise and worship style before dabbling in alternative rock then going to more of a blues-style Gospel rock. Then in 1998, thegroupwas openedby what was to be their biggest influence, Austin-based Salvador, then known as Holy Fire.Also in 1998 Axiom released a demo album, followed by "Holy Ghost Fire", the band's first full length album, in 2000. In 2002 the band was featured in a compilation album, 2002 SA Rocks CD Sampler, in which their song and video "In Your Arms" was aired twice on the Carmen Show on TBN. This year their video for the song "Testify" was aired three times on the Carmen Show and is currently being given air time on 67 different TV shows across the country, helping to fulfill their mission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ everywhere.As "movers and shakers" in the Christian music scene in San Antonio, Axiom also wants to be a realistic representation of Jesus by helping those in need, whether the need be spiritual or otherwise.And as for the relation of music and math, it stops at Axiom.
